Three Shia infallible Imams, Three conflicting answers

al-Salamu `Aleykum,

We often come across this but this time I feel posting it…

[`Ali bin Ibrahim, from Muhammad bin `Isa, from Yunus, from Mu`awiyah bin Wahb that he said: I asked abu `Abdillah (as) about sleeping in the Masjid al-Haram and the Masjid al-Nabawi, he said: It’s allowed.]

source: al-Kafi 3/369 #10.

[`Ali bin Ibrahim, from his father, from Hammad, from Hurayz, from Zurarah bin A`yyan that he said: I told abu Ja`far (as): What is your verdict on sleeping in the Masaajid? He said: No harm in this, except for two: Masjid al-Nabi and Masjid al-Haram.]

source: al-Kafi 3/370 #11.

[From `Abdullah bin al-Hasan, from his grandfather `Ali bin Ja`far, from his brother, He said: I asked him about sleeping in the Masjid al-Haram? He repied: No harm in this. Then I asked him about sleeping in Masjid al-Rasul? He said: Not allowed.]

source: Qurb al-Isnad pg.69 #6382.

al-Baqir says: You cannot sleep in al-Masjid al-Nabawi nor al-Masjid al-Haram but the rest are ok.

al-Sadiq his son contradicts him and says: There is no issue in sleeping in any Masjid.

al-Kadhim his grandson contradicts both and says: No issue in sleeping in Masjid al-Haram but not in al-Nabawi.

The joys of infallibility. This is what I call “Lutf”, Allah left us without an infallible and we only have conflicting Hadith.

Imam Baqir marries a woman whom his father dislikes

Shia Infallible Imam marries a woman whom his infallible father dislikes. (Note: We Sunnis don’t believe they are infallible nor do we believe they are Imams of the Shia. They are free from Shia sect, may Allah have mercy on them).

Muhammad ibn Yahya has narrated from Ahmad ibn Muhammad from ibn Faddal from ibn Bukayr from Zurarah who has said the following:
“Abu Ja‘far, ‘Alayhi al-Salam, said to me, ‘I wanted to marry a woman but my father disliked it. I went and married her and afterwards I went to see her. I looked at her and did not see anything attractive to me. I stood up to leave but her guard with her went to the door to close it on me. I told her not to do so and she could have what she wanted. When I returned home to my father and informed him about it, he said, ‘You only owe to her half of the mahr (dower).’ He said, ‘You married her during a hot hour.’”al-Kafi, Vol. 5, p. 366 (Majlisi graded it Muwathaq)
Wasail al-Shia, Vol. 14, p. 208

Note: This narration is missing from the Urdu translation of al-Kafi.

Comments: Imam married a woman which his father disliked. This was not appropriate for him to do so, since his father was infallible. Moreoever, he made a second mistake when he married her during ‘a hot hour’. The Imam was unaware of it, while it is strange, when compared with the rest of Shia ahadith which mention the knowledge of Imams from the childhood.

`Ali asking Fatima for evidence of what she narrated

al-Salamu `Aleykum,

Topic related to the infallibility from the books of Ahlul-Sunnah and possibly the Shia, al-Sadiq Ja`far reports from his father Muhammad bin `Ali in Sahih Muslim the following narration:

[…(In a long narration he says)…`Ali came from the Yemen with the sacrificial animals for the Prophet (May peace be upon him) and found Fatimah (Allah be pleased with her) to be one among those who had put-off Ihram and had put on dyed clothes and had applied antimony. He (`Ali) showed disapproval to it, whereupon she said: My father has commanded me to do this. He (the narrator) said that `Ali used to say in `Iraq: I went to the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) showing annoyance at Fatimah for what she had done, and asked the (verdict) of Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) regarding what she had narrated from him, and told him that I was angry with her, whereupon he said: She has told the truth, she has told the truth.]

Now this is in Shia books as well and InshaAllah we will write the Shia chains of narration to see if it is authentic based on their standards or not.

This narration is found in the Shia main four books.

al-Tusi:

Narrates it in al-Tahdheeb and al-Amali, his chains are as follows:

1- Muhammad bin `Ali bin Mahboub, from Ya`qoub bin Yazid, from ibn abi `Umayr, from Mu`awiyah bin `Ammar, from abi `Abdillah (as)…
2- Muhammad bin Husayn, and `Ali bin al-Sindi, and al-`Abbas, all of them, from Safwan, from  Mu`awiyah bin `Ammar, from abi `Abdillah (as)…

al-Kulayni:

Narrates it in al-Kafi with these chains:

1- `Ali bin Ibrahim, from his father, and Muhammad bin Yahya, from Ahmad bin Muhammad, all of them, from ibn abi `Umayr, from Hamad, from al-Halabi, from abi `Abdillah (as)…
2- `Ali bin Ibrahim, from his father, and Muhammad bin Isma`eel, from al-Fadl bin Shadhan, all of them, from ibn abi `Umayr, from Mu`awiyah bin `Ammar, from abi `Abdillah (as)…

al-Saduq:

Narrated it in al-Fqih and al-`Ilal with the following chain:

1- My father (rah) said: Sa`d bin `Abdullah told us, from Ahmad bin Muhammad bin `Isa, from Muhammad bin `Umayr, from Hamad, from al-Halabi, from abu `Abdillah (as)…
