Even Ali’s official letters reject the Shia Imamah

Salam,

Imami Shia claim `Ali had a distinct rank and position that no one else held, but did he clarify this in his official letters?

We find in Nahjul-Balagha, under the section on `Ali’s letters, on page 582 in a letter he sent to the Koufans as he left for Basarah:

مِنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ عَلِيّ أَمِيرِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ إلَى أَهْلِ الْكُوفَةِ، جَبْهَةِ الاَْنْصَارِ وَسَنَامِ الْعَرَبِ أَمَّا بَعْدُ

“From the slave of Allah `Ali, commander of the faithful, to the people of Kufah who are foremost among the supporters and chiefs of the Arabs.”

And in another letter he wrote regarding his Will:

هذَا مَا أَمَرَ بِهِ عَبْدُ اللهِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِب أمِيرُالْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي مَالِهِ، ابْتِغَاءَ وَجْهِ اللهِ، لِيُولِجَني بِهِ الْجَنَّةَ، وَيُعْطِيَني الاَْمَنَةَ

“This is what was ordered by the slave of Allah `Ali ibn abi Talib, commander of the faithful, regarding his property, seeking Allah’s face.”

On the other hand we see the leaders before him, such as `Umar ibn al-Khattab write their letters identically, like in al-Ahkam al-Sultaniyyah, the first volume, on page 122:

من عبدالله عمر بن الخطاب أمير المؤمنين إلى عبد الله بن قيس، سلام عليك، أما بعد

“From the slave of Allah `Umar ibn al-Khattab, commander of the faithful, to `Abdullah ibn Qays, peace be upon you.”

And the leader after him, also all of them wrote the exact same words, such as abu Ja`far al-Mansour, in al-Kamil-fil-Lughah, third volume 1490-1491:

من عبد الله عبد الله أمير المؤمنين، إلى محمد بن عبد الله، أما بعد

“From the slave of Allah `Abdullah, commander of the faithful, to Muhammad bin `Abdullah.”

In other words all of them except Abu Bakr al-Siddeeq wrote the exact same expressions, this is because Abu Bakr had a distinct station of being the actual successor, so he would write “Khalifatu Rasul-Allah” and the title of “Commander of the faithful” was not used in his time.

If `Ali had a distinct position and elevated status, why didn’t he use it to identify himself? For instance Shia claim he’s “The infallible leader” or they say “Wasi Rasul-Allah”, why did he not use these titles to show his special position?

So ponder.

The oppression of Ali bin abi Talib

Assalamu Alaikum,

One of the main themes of Rafidism is the “oppression of Ahlul Bayt”. Ali (RA), according to the Rafida, was oppressed after the Prophet (SAWS) died. He was denied his rightful Khilafa, his wife was beaten up, his wife’s inheritance was stolen (Fadak) – amongst other things.

The Rafida go to great lengths to bewail, mourn and eulogise this severe oppression.

The Rafida also pride themselves on being a people of “logic”. They berate the Ash’aris and their literalism, their backwardness, and take pride in their use of ‘Aql and Ijtihad in interpreting the Qur’an and Ahadith.

So, I ask the Rafida to “logically” interpret the following facts about ‘Ali (RA), and to reconcile them with their belief in his oppression:

– Ali (RA) married 8 women.

http://mezan.net/mawsouat/ali/zawjateh.html

– Ali (RA) had 28 children.

http://mezan.net/mawsouat/ali/zawjateh.html

Taking the above facts into account:

– Logically – does a man who marries 8 times and has 28 children sound like he lived in oppression?

– Can a poor and oppressed man marry and maintain 8 women? – even if you don’t marry them at the same time

– Can a poor and oppressed man maintain and support 28 children? – let’s assume most of them make it to adulthood

– Where did ‘Ali get the money for this? Was he a known as a rich man?

– So where did he get this money?

Ali: Ask me before you lose me p2

by Brother Efendi

May Allah protect our brother Qasurah from alsrdaab.com. He gave a very interesting question regarding famous saying of Ali which is used by shias.

Ali (ra) said: Ask me before you lose me.  Rarely you would find shia book on Ali, which wouldn’t mention this saying.

We would try to look at this saying in the prism of famous shia belief that each Imam use to inherit knowledge from previous one.

In the life time of Ali there were two other Imams: Hasan and Husayn.

Question:

Why Ali was persisting that people should ask him questions before they would loose him, if after him were two other Imams which inherited knowledge from him and could answer to questions of people?

Allah supported the Prophet (SAWS) with the believers

al-Salamu `Aleykum,

I know I rarely open topics these days, but here are some Quranic thoughts for the people of intellect and vision…

Surat al-Anfal [8:62]

{وإن يريدوا أن يخدعوك فإن حسبك اللـه ۚ هو الذي أيدك بنصره وبالمؤمنين}

{But if they intend to deceive you – then sufficient for you is Allah. It is He who supported you with His help and with the believers}

According to this verse Allah supported his Prophet (SAWS) and fortified the religion with the believers, on the other hand the Shia story says that the Prophet (SAWS) did not wish to reveal the Imamah of `Ali (ra) because he was afraid that these same believers would leave Islam or cause him harm.

Think about the explicit verses Insha-Allah.

Debate with Shia on Imamah (8/13/2013)

al-Salamu `Aleykum,

This is a call for a one on one debate, any Shia who wants to join is welcome. Topic is “Was `Ali (ra) divinely appointed as Imam?”

This is the main pillar of Shia faith, so I assume they should at least have ONE strong explicit solid proof for it. I challenge the Shia to present ONE strong explicit solid proof for the theory of Wasiyah and Imamah and we’ll discuss it.

(No more than one, and when we’re done with it we can move to another).

Discuss further here:

http://islamic-forum.net/index.php?showtopic=20498

If you know knowledgeable Shias then invite them to debate Imamah with the People of the Sunnah.
