The Better Authority on Rijal – Allah or Shia Scholars?

Bimillah wal salatu wal salam ala rasoolillah,

I was listening to an audio recording of a lesson by Sa’ad Al-Shnifa and he brought my attention to something I’ve overlooked quite a few times during my studies in Shia rijal.

There is a rule, that some shia scholars have used in order to strengthen narrators that are originally unknown. For those that are familiar with Al-Saduq, and some of his books, you’ll notice that he often makes taradhee of his shaikhs. For example, he will say, Mohammed bin Musa bin Al-Mutawakil (radhee Allahu anh), and some Shia hadithists see this as a form of strengthening.

The following are some of their quotes:

Al-Burujirdee said (Miqyas Al-Ruwat p.150):

كثرة ترضي أحد أعاظم الأصحاب وأعيانهم في حق أحد من المشايخ، لا إشكال في دلالته على التوثيق

Rough translation: There is no doubt that a lot of taradhee by one of our major scholars upon one of the shaikhs is evidence that he is a thiqa.

I also found this post by a Shi’ee on a forums trying to strengthen a narrator:

الشيخ الماحوزي – كتاب ولادة القائم المهدي عليه السلام بالروايات الصحيحة الصريحة – الصفحة 16:
علي بن عبد الله الوراق : من الذين أكثر الرواية عنهم الصدوق (قدس سره) ، كما قد أسرف في الترضي والترحم عليه ، وهذا كاف في التوثيق وإثبات العدالة .

Rough translation: Ali bin Abdullah Al-Warraq: One of the that Al-Saduq narrated a lot from, and he made tarahum and taradhee of him a lot, and this is sufficient to accept him as trustworthy.

والترحم من الثقة ظاهر في التوثيق ، فضلا عن الاعتبار ، كما يرشد إليه نقل الترحم من الصادق ( عليه السلام ) في ترجمة جابر بن يزيد بل عد الرضيلة والرحملة من الألفاظ الظاهرة في التوثيق .

Rough translation: …but even that taradhee and tarahum are clear statements for tawtheeq.

وبناء على هذا فيمكن التفصيل بين هذه العبائر، فإذا صدر الترضّي من الإمام عليه‏السلام فلا شكّ في دلالته على التوثيق، وكذلك الحال في صدوره من الأعلام العارفين بمداليل الالفاظ في حقّ معاصريهم، والظاهر أنّه يعدّ توثيقاً، ولا سيما مع الاكثار منه، فنفس الترضّي علامة على التوثيق، والإكثار منه تأكيد له.

Rough translation: …if an Imam makes taradhee then there is no doubt that this person is a thiqa, and this is similar if a major scholar used similar words with a contemporary, for it clearly implies tawtheeq, no doubt if he says it a lot…

So, as we can see, a decent amount of Shia rijal scholars feel this way about taradhee. In short, they will accept the taradhee of Al-Saduq or Al-Mufeed as a form of strengthening.

However, what if this taradhee was done by Allah (swt)?

9:100 And the first to lead the way, of the Muhajirin and the Ansar, and those who followed them in goodness – Allah is well pleased with them and they are well pleased with Him, and He hath made ready for them Gardens underneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide for ever. That is the supreme triumph. 

وَالسَّابِقُونَ الْأَوَّلُونَ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ وَالْأَنْصَارِ وَالَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوهُمْ بِإِحْسَانٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ وَرَضُوا عَنْهُ وَأَعَدَّ لَهُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي تَحْتَهَا الْأَنْهَارُ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدًا ذَلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ

  1. Why bother so much about the Arabic Ilm of Rijal ? Just apply a little inttelect if you guys have any because the other way to find out whether a hadees is authentic or false and fabricated is to see what the holy Qora’an says in that matter . Wazoo is an example . A wast majority due to false ahadees is washing the legs thus rendering the wazoo null and void .Then the most prolific narrator abu horairah whom hazrat Omar khattab gave such a slap that he fell bleeding, what for ? For fabricating such sayings which the Prophet of Islam (s) never said and for this he recieved the reprimand from hazrat Aiyesha too . Then read the Saheeh Bokhari and you will find such ahadees as ” Allah made Adam in his own image ”,Jahannum complained of its wast emptiness and MA’AZ ALLAH HE (swt) put His massive leg to fill it up and the original Adam Allah created was 60 ft etc etc , the list is endless ,
    Then admit that the hadees is correct that there was an attack on the house of Lady Fatemah (saa) otherwise why she was so angry with them If the hadees is false then the narrator is Lady Ayisha if it is correct then who are the Criminals Terrorist who attacked with fire and killed the Mother and Child . So don’t go into the indrjal of Rijal , apply commonsense , read Qora’an, reject the translation of those who translate with a purpose or weigh it on cash or were afraid of Talwar, Alas if you had not forgotten , ignored and rejected Ahlebayt (a s) remembered Hauz e Kausar and Saqlain , wouldn’t have gone astray ,still there is time , come to your senses , follow Tejani, Sheikh Jehad ,Obaidullah Khan Azmi , the list is endless .Every second a score of people are added.who
    walk from ilhaad to Eemaan. .

So this incident is fake and a lie from shias, O K then tell me was Lady Aisha was saying the truth or ma’az Allah Rasool (s) wife was telling a lie when she reported and Saheeh Bokhari narrated that sayyedah e Aalam (s a a)was very angry with him and did not talk to Hazrat Abu Bakr till she lived and she lived only three month after the incident and had a big wound on her ribs. How do you explain this . How do you explain Omar’s lineage . How do you explain his unsheathd Sword and his going towards the Rasool’s house and how do you explain omar’s attack on her own sister and her husband till she bled. Are all these attributes are for the most noble person . Shame on you on accusing shias for telling lies . They(kholafa e salasah) were the worst creations of Islamic history, read and research , dont believe what you have been listning from your parents and Jahil Molvies , believe your own books after thorough research .The great Ahle Sunnah Ulemahs were not fools who after knowing the realities converted to the Islam of Rasool (s) and his Ahlebayt , not the 4 fiqh which was fabricated after 200 years on the basis of Kazib (hazrat Aiysha’s words) Abu horairah who became rich from a beggar narrating false fabricated ahadees from the pulpit of the mimber e Rasool (saaws) to please maloun Moaviah , whose son tried to finish all traces of Islam . Will you tell who appointed such character a Governer which he later converted to Kingship and believing him your friend Zakir Naik says Karbala’s battle was a battle between two Princes . Nauzo Billah and dont forget that many Sunni Ulemas of yester years have declared Yazeed, the greatest Fasiq o Fajir Kaffir . Even today after Nalayaks offending lecture Ahle sunnat Ulemas have banned his entry in many cities , while foreign countries have refused Visa to him. .

    • Do you read my comments or not? I said there is NO SAHIH report that Umar (ra) attacked Fatima (ra) and burnt her house. This Hadith that you mentioned of Bukhari from mother of believers doesn’t mention anything about the attack. Do you see the difference.

      It is you who needs research about the people whom you call the ‘worst creations’ in Islamic History. Go read what historians and non-muslim scholars say about these kholafa al-rashideen.

      Zakir Naek was wrong in what he said about Yazid. I hope he never repeats this mistake again.
